At the Hermitage

And no – we are not in Russia. Lisa Petersen and I are down here in Sarasota Florida at a wonderful writers retreat called the Hermitage. Actually we are on Manasota Key which is a little barrier island right on the golf of Mexico. It's ridiculous. We are sharing a cottage called the Whitney and my bedroom is not more than 50 feet from the ocean. This area was hit by the last hurricane but only suffered a small road outage of the way. Lots of debris still around but no major damage.

Emily Mann helped us secure this  fellowship and we are using it to make some progress on the Song of Rome. And, miracle of miracles, we've had several wonderful breakthroughs.

Tomorrow evening we are supposed to give a presentation of some sort. It's been a local papers and apparently people are going to show up. Yikes! Lisa and I are probably going to end up presenting the first chapter of "An Iliad" as well as some writing from the "Song of Rome."

Here we are on day 3. Digging in but also enjoying the amazing scenery.
